Patrica Vener has always been an artist and one of her earliest art memories is also one of the influences that has stayed with her from the very start. She was four years old and her nursery class had a field trip to a local museum in Rochester NY.

She was completely mesmerized by the textiles and beadwork of the native Americans. Patrica didn’t know how long she stood there just gazing at the work and absorbing all that the creator had to say.

Her path as an artist, however, was a duet of both fine and performing arts. she is a (retired) ballerina as well as a published artist, having done illustrations for a CD picture book, "Papa CArdinal Finds Breakfast" by Sandra Wellborn. One of her paintings accompanied and essay she wrote for an Astronomy textbook. (she also hold a Masters Degree in Astrophysics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY and has worked as an astronomer and still teach astronomy as an adjunct professor for University of Maryland University College.)

Her work has continued to grow and expand and I now also counts herself as a mistress of the art of beadweaving. Her paintings and drawings are as important to her as ever, though, and couldn’t find enough time to do all that she wanted!

All of her work is one of a kind (with occasional limited editions -- She had a hard time doing things more than once!). She likes to play with color and texture, experiment with shape and drape and form.

That's Headley! Jewelry Designs is about a journey in wearable art in semiprecious gemstones, wire, and glass. Color, texture, balance, and richness are her design goals. Silver is always bona fide sterling at the least, and sometimes fine (99.9% pure) silver.

My mother always commissioned her jewelry and would take me with her as a child to the jewelers. It was fascinating to see the design process.
I had a real craze for earrings and little pocket money so the solution was to make my own. I got materials from a bead store and started to wear my creations.

Many years later, I could not find an engagement ring I liked that was different from the usual "Solitaire" diamond. Quite naturally, I designed and commissioned it. I also had to design a matching wedding band and my husband's. As time went by, I was designing and commissioning more and more: earrings, chains, rings....
It suddenly occurred to me that I should just learn the proper skills myself and get on with it. That was in October 2006.

I also enjoy creating bespoke jewels for clients, turning their ideas into the jewels of their dreams, for themselves or loved ones. It can be challenging, fun and tricky at times.

I love working with 18k and 22K yellow gold and setting stones. I think it is fantastic to be able to transform raw sheets of metal and wire into something sparkly, precious and beautiful that is unique.

Tamara is a wife, mom, jewelry artisan and vegan cooking enthusiast.

My jewelry business, McFarland Designs, is based in Humboldt County, California. I am continually inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us in this beautiful part of the world, where the redwoods meet the Pacific ocean.

The idea for this business was born while my husband and I were waiting to bring home our son from Guatemala. I was looking for a career change; something tactile and creative, that would also allow me to work at home after I became a mom. During the long months spent waiting for our adoption paperwork to be completed, we received photographs monthly of our son-to-be, Carlos. Of course, I thought he was the most beautiful baby ever, and I longed to have him with us forever. One of the things that helped me feel close to him while we waited was to wear his photograph in a necklace. It kept him close to my heart, and of course it also gave me lots of opportunities to show off my little cutie.

What began with an idea for a photo jewelry business soon blossomed into something more, as my creativity and excitement grew about learning new jewelry making techniques. Of course I still love making photo jewelry, but now I've added many other styles to my collection - something to suit just about anyone.

As in other areas of my life, it is important to me not to use any animal products in my jewelry making. I practice a vegan lifestyle, and I am committed to not using silk, leather, or pearls in any of my designs. Instead of pearls derived from oysters, I use top quality simulated pearls with a lovely and durable pearlized coating.

Beth Alexander loves to express her magic.

I have been fascinated by crystals and stones for as long as I can remember. I had some wonderful teachers during my childhood who passed on their passion for nature, geology, crystals and gemstones. I come from a long line of artistic souls on my father's side of the family. My great grandmother was an amazing artist who left behind some amazing oil paintings. She also painted and fired china (plates, cups, pitchers, tiles...you name it), she had an fantastic eye for detail and could paint tiny pictures small enough to fit on a thimble. My father was a well rounded artist and crafts person and spent many years teaching arts & crafts in the public school system.

I've been creating unique pieces of jewelry for almost 20 years now, and I'm still excited by the process and I have an almost insatiable appetite for learning new techniques of the craft. Along the way I have also been drawn to studying and practicing various energy healing arts, like Reiki, chakra balancing, Earth based energy medicine, shamanic practices, and Angel Therapy. I have found combining my love of minerals, my artistic eye and skill in the jewelry fabrication and design, along with my heightened sensitivity to energies creates a powerful synergy. I love to immerse myself in the creative process and I'm fascinated when some pieces seem to magically design themselves. I am pleased to share my passion with you here.

I delight in creating these pieces! Each one is unique, with its own energy that I feel as I work with the materials. They transport me to a place of deep knowing, relaxation and happiness as I work. Pippit Carlington has been creating art ever since she was old enough to pick up a paintbrush. At age 5 she was composing songs on the piano; teaching herself to play by ear. She often found herself re-designing things she saw around her, in 6th grade she constructed the class mascot; a 4 foot-tall owl sculpted out of paper mache, and in junior high she began selling various art items she had made.

Over the years Pippit went on to receive formal art training at Callenwolde Center for the Arts, The Atlanta College of Art, and Atlanta Jeweler's School and Studios.

Pippit works in several mediums;
including acrylics, watercolor, drawing, clay sculpture, and jewelry. A multicultural influence is evident in her work reflecting a diverse heritage of Iroquois Indian, Hawaiian, Russian Jewish, and French Canadian. She is strongly influenced by nature, political and social issues, and uses her art to educate the public.

Two paintings from her September 11th Series appeared at a show on war at The Spruill Center Gallery. One of them titled, "It Makes You Realize What's Really Important", depicts a family comforting each other with an American flag in the background. The other shows the rescue effort at Ground Zero, "Amongst The Chaos". That series also included portraits of Osama Bin Laden and George W. Bush.

This series was really an exercise in patience and tolerance. It was a difficult subject matter, but I felt it was important to document this event in history so that hopefully people would never let this happen again. The portrait of Osama Bin Laden evoked such an emotional reaction that the gallery exhibiting it in Sautee, GA. had to take it down. The gallery-owner reported to me that people told her it was incredibly realistic and that was why people were so deeply affected by it on a visceral level.

One of the other paintings in the series, "Blessed Event" shows the resilient side of September 11th; the story of a woman who walked several miles after being separated from her car to the local emergency room to give birth to a healthy baby. Journalists had done an interview with the new mother and her husband for Time Magazine.

Greeting cards and bookmarks are available of some of these paintings.

Pippit has mentored artists with mental illness in a psychosocial rehabilitation program she developed called Artvision which she operated out of her home on a shoestring budget. The project was fully self-supporting, receiving no government funding.

Heavy triangle SS wire frame.
The wire was originally bought to see if I could miter corners to make a shadow box type frame. Then came the idea to do the same with square wire, which is now the inside frame with random asymmetrical pieces found on my work bench. The piece was still too boring and ended up the the scarp box. Then this piece caught my attention after working with the resin for a short time. I think the gemstone beads and resin gave the piece a more interesting look.

This is after a lot of sanding, filing and cleaning. I especially like the contrast between the copper, silver, gold and the black resin. For some reason I can't get a good picture looking straight at the rings top.

Learning to work resin into my jewelry making has become a new process and learning curve. I become bored so easily, I need new avenues to keep my mind busy. Many stressful moments have come and gone in my life and I’ve made it thru by occupying my hands and thoughts.

It probably took several days to figure out what I wanted in the bezel cups. I never know how a project will end up looking and sometimes they end up in my scarp box until a later date. After searching for days, I found a lot of tubes I had bought many years ago. That's how the mosaic pieces came about. Having so many different size wire and tubing, I was able to fill up each little cup tightly like you see here. I played around with the resin for a while before attempting to proceed with filling the cups with resin. The resin needed to dry for at least 36 hours. Then a lot of filing, sanding and cleaning after that.
